"Gatherings"
Kettunen Center
Tustin, MI

Please join us at July Camp this year!
We will celebrate our gathering places at the beautiful setting on Center Lake at Kettunen Center.

We will lodge in Cedar cabin or White Pine. At Cedar we have our own deck for gathering for afternoon singing, reading and chatting. You can gather in our hospitality room for food, puzzles, note writing, games and chatting any time after morning group is over. Ford room will host our dance gatherings with Dave L as DJ and lights master. We can gather at the beach and have a camp fire and enjoy the water, kayaks and the pontoon boat. We will also gather for games night and game playing and an early week coffee house. Finally, our celebration would not be complete without gathering for our camp show. If you would like to host your own gathering activity in the afternoon, you can get on the schedule for that as well.
The format for July camp will be a bit different this summer. Instead of 4 week long morning groups, we will have one week long growth group and 3 one day morning groups each day. Around a month before camp starts, you will be sent a form to register for the morning group selection you want to participate in.

Group Options
Week long group
Connections and Reflections led by Kathy V.
This is the only week long group. There will be a limited number for this group. It is a discussion/growth group.

Daily groups
Line dance with Gretchen (offered 3 days)
I will offer a morning group of beginning line dancing with recorded music. Each dance will be taught and practiced, and then we will dance the steps to music of many genres, (not just country). Class members can dance as much or as little as they wish. Our goal is to have fun while moving to the beat.

Gather together for a group paddling with Brian
Spend a peaceful and pleasant morning on the lake! We will be sharing the camp's paddle boards, single/double kayaks and canoes. Basic instructions and assistance are available, if requested.

Croquet with Ken
A game of fun. A game of relaxation. A game for ages 50+. A game for AMUUSEers. Beginners welcome as rules and techniques will be reviewed before play begins.

Trail Hike with Dave L
This will be more invigorating that a leisurely stroll! Wear bug repellent as necessary.

Introduction to Ukulele with Kathe
Have you ever wondered whether or not you would like to play the ukulele? Well, in just one morning group session you will find the answer to this burning question. In session one at least three ukulele chords will be taught allowing a plethora of simple songs to be played. In the second session we will be practicing the skills presented in session one. If you discover the uke is your instrument and you would like to learn more chords and songs, I will be available any afternoon for more lessons. It is helpful to bring a ukulele but not absolutely necessary.

Drumming/Music making with Kathe, Gwen and Gretchen
Bring your own instruments or use some of ours. If you have a Rise Up Singing book, bring it along. We will sing and play and drum.

Paint pouring with Gwen
We will be doing a dirty pour on a 8x10 canvas and maybe spicing it up. No artistic talent needed! Wear old clothes! This requires a fee.

Poker with John
I bring the cards and chips and instructions.

An intro to card games (not bridge) with John
Games include trick taking (spades, up & down the river), points (hearts), pairs (canasta, rummy), special decks with card value (pinochle) trick taking with short deck (euchre).

AMUUSE bouche -- Exploring Taste with Elise
Learn descriptive language for flavors and a little food science. Exercise your palate with food sampling (for example: cheese, fruit, cured meat). Participate in surveys, group games and sharing about the flavor preferences and experiences of each member of the group. (could do two sessions)

The Kettunen Center was founded in 1952 by the Michigan 4-H Foundation as a 4-H statewide training and youth education center. The center is located on 160 acres of forest, wetlands and rolling hills in Northern Michigan on beautiful Center Lake and provides its guests with beauty, serenity and tranquility in a natural setting. You'll find many opportunities to unwind and explore.

AMUUSE's started enjoying this camp in 2012. The facilities are very nice. Its not really a camp, but we refer to it as a camp at times. It is a very modern conference center, or you might want to call it a retreat center.
